Boxing Day 2011

The Point Leo Swim Classic is one of the Premier events on the Open Water Swim calendar. It is held annually on Boxing Day over a distance of 1200 metres.

The John Marshall Memorial Surf Race will again be held this year. Any competitor who registered for the 2011 Point Leo Swim Classic via the Ezyentry online system is eligible to compete in the prestigious race. The field is limited to 32 Male and 32 Female swimmers. Entries open on the day. There will be cash prizes on offer of $300 for the winner, $150 for second and $50 for third in both the male and female categories.

The Point Leo Swim Classic is a 1200m ocean swim. There will be one leg in the swim that will be up to 600m long, depending on the conditions on the day. Open female and male winners of the Swim Classic will receive a commemorative trophy and all other category place getters will receive a medallion. Presentations will be made on the beach immediately following the finish of each swim category. The Swim Classic swimmers will again be timed using electronic timing provided by Sports Timing Pty Ltd. Our event 2XU Elite Performance t-shirts will be handed out to competitors before the swim.

Only those swimmers who have trained for the event should enter and we do recommend that you wear a wetsuit.

Honeysuckle Beach Run: 4km

The most exciting beach run held over summer is back again! The Honeysuckle Beach Run is an enthralling 4km race starting from the Point Leo SLSC clubhouse, heading towards Crunchy Point where competitors turn around to come back past the clubhouse and head towards Honeysuckle Point, where once again they will turn to finish in front of the clubhouse and of hundreds of supporters! Male and female place getters will receive a medal in each age category. Honeysuckle Beach Run age group categories are Cadet 12-18yrs, Open 19-29yrs, Master 30yrs+, Senior 40yrs+, Veteran 50yrs+, Legends 60yrs+.

Paton Estate Agents Pty Ltd Nipper & Novice Swims: 400m

This year the Paton Estate Agents Pty Ltd Nipper and Novice Swims will involve a 400m ocean swim around the John Marshall Surf Race course. Set to encourage nippers and patrons who are not yet confident enough to tackle the 1200m swim, the Nipper and Novice swims make for a great starting point in Open Water Swimming. Male and female place getters of the Nipper swim will receive a medal in each age group. Male and female place getters of the Novice swimmers will also receive a medal. Nipper age group categories are 8-10 year olds, under 12 and under 14. Novice swim is for swimmers 14 – 70+

Online entry will be available for all events at www.ezyentry.com.au from mid November.

Registration

Opens 10:30 AM outside the Point Leo SLSC Clubhouse.
Closes 30 minutes prior to start of each event.
Collect timing band, receive race numbering, swim cap/wrist band and show bag (pre-paid entries).

John Marshall Surf Race entries and registration will open 10:30 AM outside the Point Leo SLSC Clubhouse.

Race Information

Entry and payment

Event entry and payment to be made via Ezyentry up until 5pm 23^rdDecember.

Entry can be made on the day only if maximum competitor numbers have not been reached. So register online early to avoid disappointment and the additional cost.

If entering on the day, please allow sufficient time in case of delays. Cheques will not be accepted. Please bring correct money.

Entries cannot be cancelled or transferred. No refunds available.

John Marshall Memorial Surf Race

Entries for the John Marshall Memorial Surf Race will be made at Point Leo SLSC only on the day of the event at no additional cost. Entries will be limited to 32 Female and 32 Male Swim Classic competitors who entered via Ezyentry.

Marshalling

Race briefing will be given 30 minutes prior to each event.
Race officials will marshall competitors 15 minutes prior to the start of each event.
Each of the events will start and finish on the beach.
Times may vary on the day so make sure you are ready early so that you don’t miss your start.

There will be numerous random and spot prizes during the day.

NOTE: To be eligible for random prizes participants must have entered online and must accept the prize in person.

RACE RULES & REGULATIONS

Swimmers may use any stroke to propel themselves and may tread water or float.
In an emergency a swimmer will raise an arm overhead & call for or seek assistance. Once official assistance is rendered, the swimmer must retire from the race.
A swimmer must wear the approved swim cap.
Goggles must be worn.
Standing on the bottom shall not disqualify a swimmer.
A swimmer shall not wear artificial propulsion devices of any kind including, but not limited to, fins, paddles, floatation devices or buoyancy suits of any kind. Wet suits are allowed.
The referee’s decision is final.
Loss of the race timing tag will incur a replacement fee of $100.

Race times will be available shortly after the race. Times and details will also be available from this website the day after the swim.
