The historic Point Leo Swim Classic is on again this Boxing Day 26 December 2024.
The Swim Classic is an ocean swim hosted by the Point Leo Surf Life Saving Club (at Point Leo Beach) over a distance of 1200 metres. In addition, there is a 2.5km Challenge, a 400m Nipper/Novice event and a 4km beach run.
Events:
Balnarring & District Community Bank 2.5 km Challenge
Held over the same course as the Point Leo Swim Classic, swimmers will complete two laps to finish the race. A cutoff time of 1.5 hours will be enforced (any remaining swimmers will be pulled from the water). There will be one leg in the swim that will be up to 600 metres long, depending on the conditions on the day.
There are no separate age categories for the 2.5km challenge.
400m Nipper & Novice Swims
This year the Nipper (youth) and Novice Swims will involve a 400m ocean swim. Set to encourage participants who are not yet confident enough to tackle the 1200m swim, the Nipper and Novice swims make for a great starting point in open water swimming. Nipper age group categories are 8-U10, U12 and U14 year old. Novice swim is for swimmers 14 – 70+.
Honeysuckle 4km Beach Run
The most exciting beach run held over summer is back! The Honeysuckle Beach Run is an enthralling and scenic 4km race, starting from the Point Leo SLSC clubhouse heading towards Crunchy Point where competitors turn around to come back past the clubhouse and head towards Honeysuckle Point, where they turn and repeat the course once again, then turn to finish in front of the clubhouse and hundreds of supporters! Male and female place-getters will receive a medal in each age category. Honeysuckle Beach Run categories are Nipper 8-U12, Junior Cadet 12-U16, Senior Cadet 16-U19 and Open 19+.
